After 8 years and over 153k miles, my Fusion had its first mechanical failure: my slushbox suddenly got a lot slushier on my way home from work yesterday. I thought I noticed some slight slipping during my 62 mile trek to work in the morning but all Hades broke loose during the afternoon traffic on the way home. All sorts of rough shifting, momentary refusal to upshift, starting from a stop in 2nd (or 3rd?), and culminating with “holy crap will this thing grab enough to get me home?” for the last 10 miles. Shopping for LKQ and Car-Part replacements now before I head down to the salvage yards of Otay to see what’s local. Not my favorite way to burn a PTO day.

For everyone who doesn’t know, The Salvage Yards of Otay is an actual phenomenon. Many square miles of open-air salvage yards stretching under the desert sun northeast of Tijuana. It feels a bit like walking into Mordor.

Yup. Fairly certain the soil there will be contaminated until the dying Sun consumes the Earth.

Probably doomed, but why not drop the pan and check for bits? If it looks ok just throw some fluid + filter in it and see if it’ll get by for a bit longer

Unfortunately I don’t have the time/space at the moment to work on it myself. I know a great mechanic around the corner but he’s always stacked with cars and I have even been able to reach him yet today. That’ll definitely be the first step, I think.

Do you have the 6F35 or the Aisin AWD one?

It’s the 6F35 GM/Ford lovechild.
